My 8th Great-Grandfather François Savoie probably had no idea of what quandary he would put modern-day Acadian genealogists and the House of Savoy of Italy in with his deathbed confession. I am allowing my DNA and that of my father’s to be included in the formal studies to help solve this mystery, whatever the scientific results conclude. François’ alleged descent from an Italian Prince from the House of Savoy is often regarded as spurious by many researchers, however, modern society convicts people of murder on less circumstantial evidence than what is available for François Savoie’s connection to Italian nobility.
